I've been thinking we need to start moving to standardized reusable shipping boxes for shipping etc. A publicly owned postal service like Canada Post could lead the initiative, using their existing critical mass and taking back a competitive advantage for unionized job from predatory online retailers. Programs like this could lead the charge by agreeing to one type of box and get people hooked on reusable boxes. Here in Canada we do something similar with beer bottles.
That would be amazing! I used to be in e-commerce and there were a couple of companies that used reusable mailer systems (like you get return deposit on bottles in some places) and there are many package free stores now
Ideas like these are changing things step by step!
I will let them know. This app is only a few months old, so it doesn't have nationwide coverage just yet. If you want to consider helping spread it by word of mouth locally, I made some easy copy-paste DM and email templates at the bottom of this article.
Thanks I already have forwarded the app information to small farms and ranches that I would like to see on the app as I purchased from them each individually now
Thank you so much for spreading the word, it's a brand new app, so it makes sense it's not everywhere yet, but judging by the responses I'm getting it deffo will be soon!
Thank you so much. If you have a minute, you can definitely speed it along with an email or a DM to just one local form. It could spread rapidly from word of mouth. From just one of those.
We put easy copy-paste templates at the bottom of this article to make it easy if you have 5 or 10 minutes to reach out.
I just downloaded the app, thanks for putting it out there! I’m a vegetable farmer in Kentucky. Our family just recently quit our farmers market where we had been members for nearly 20 years, in order to concentrate our efforts on our CSA program. I’ve been thinking about getting involved with something like this for some time now. I’ll give it a go and see what happens!
Best wishes with it! It's so promising and the founder has proven to build trust with her 150k regenerative farmer audience so I feel like this will only continue to grow and improve <3
It may be difficult--not sure how your database is set up--but the ability to simply locate a local farm instead of searching for specific foods to purchase would be helpful. I'm willing to buy what you have on offer if you are nearby.
I would be totally excited to buy from Red Hen and support this mission but when it's requires using a "smart" device, I can't do it. The frequencies from the cell phones, towers, wifi, smart meters, etc are destroying my life and my own damn ability to grow my own veggies. People who are interested in Red Hen should be those also interested in health and we should all be looking at the EMF problem closely because it's not just me and my husband who are getting hit and having their lives destroyed. If we want to fix the system we're currently in, we need to fix it on every level.
Where are you in Europe? There are a couple of apps similar to this in the UK. Social enterprise is massive in the UK, it's just starting to take off in the US, but I really haven't looked into what's going on in Europe. I bet there's a lot happening though!
Oh!!! Ok!!! Ignore my question in that other post!🤓 🤞🏻to find local, tho if yr in northern portion of Houston, Atkinson's Farm off of Spring-Cypress (between 1960 & 99N - chk their website) is yr best bet (unless you want to go further into the city, in which case the huge market on Airline is awesome, bring yr Spanish-speaking skills & have twice the amt of fun).

Very cool app! It would be useful to be able to override the default location by allowing the user to input a specific ZIP Code.
As well would like to see ability to get a list of participating farms. I cant seem to find any

This is also true for me.
Hang in there, the apps only a few months old. I've got people using the templates to contact local farms too!
Thanks for posting. Downloaded app. Nothing near by yet but 🤞🏼

Wow! Love this idea. Very encouraging. Necessity IS the mother of invention! Thank you!

Thank you I will pass it on to the team!
This is absolutely fantastic. I'll be sharing this. Thank you for posting this.
Love this! As a fellow farmer I’m going to see how it works to be a part of the app for our pork!

You're right some of these solutions aren't what they could be yet.
I look at them as transitional steps and one step closer to solutions that cover every level of this.
Appreciate your feedback and support of the movement at large <3
absolutely amazing. I want this to take off nationwide!
Just a side note: isn't bill gates the largest owner of farmland?
Thank you for posting this information!
Happy to help — thank you for engaging with it, it helps spread the word!
This is really cool!
I would absolutely love to be part of something like this, it'd be amazing tl get this over here in Europe. I'd love to help make that happen

I live in Barcelona, there might be some here you're right. I need to look into it, thank you
